Davenport School of the Arts (DSA) is the proud recipient of a $100,000 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Grant. On April 17th through April 19th, representatives from the school descended on the nation’s capitol to officially accept the award. The group that took the trip to Washington, D.C. included Principal Brian Kier, 8th Grader Lee Miller and 7th Grader Mason Frier. DSA Technology Student Association chapter advisors Tracy Miller and Patti Frier were also present.

Samsung awarded the school $100,000 in technology equipment, software and cash for the student participation in the Solve for Tomorrow contest. The electronics giant asked 6th-12th grade public school teachers and their students to create a video that answered the challenge question: “How can STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) help improve the environment in your community?”

Students at Davenport School of the Arts created an outdoor learning environment where students, parents, teachers and all members of the community can learn about sustainability first hand. The outdoor learning environment includes a vegetable and hydroponics garden, a berry patch and butterfly garden.

8th Grader Lee Miller and 7th Grader Mason Frier were instrumental in the creation of the winning video. View it here: http://www.davenportschoolofthearts.com/video-page.html
